Ogg Player - 03/09/2002 11:33

Anyone looking into developing Ogg on the RIO should check out http://www.xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/hardware.html .

Wow, this like just happened. Today! They're releasing Tremor under a BSD license.

Using Tremor, will the Rio be able to decode Ogg? Dave and Reza have at it!

In JRec there's a checkbox in Rio driver settings to enable native Ogg support.

I didn't see it mentioned in that web page (I skimmed it), but the big benefit here is that it's an integer-based implementation. I just got a message forwarded to me. With this added, I feel that we'll be able to support most all audio formats on the Rio.

Perhaps sonic blue should reconsider production of these units.

Subject: [vorbis-dev] tremor relicensed as BSD

For those of you not of the commit mailing list, I wanted to point out
that monty has checked the fixed-point 'tremor' vorbis decoder into
xiph.org cvs, under the usual (free) xiph license. This was developed
for use in embedded devices, so if you've been waiting for an
interger-only (no fpu) implementation, you might want to give it a try.

The code is in the 'Tremor' cvs module. As usual, nightly snapshots are
available at http://xiph.org/ogg/vorbis/download/. There's also a new
mailing list '[email protected]'.

Unfortunately the Rio still doesn't seem to have the horsepower to decode Oggs, even with this new library.

That probably depends how well you know the target platform.

I'm sure it does. "Out of the box", however, this new library wasn't able to decode an Ogg in realtime for me. If you have any suggestions you'd be willing to share I'd love to hear them!

That blows.

I've contacted some dude over at their development team, perhaps working together we can figure a way to get it working. I'll forward you whatever I find out.
