Old issue? too many tracks blow out stock software

I have on the order of 10,000 tracks with around 3200 artists. Using the stock 1.04 software on both sides, attempts to look at titles or play things by artists result in the receiver bouncing out and going back to the current track screen. Sometimes it will play a couple of seconds worth before giving up.

While I am playing with the alternate s/w stacks, I'd also like to know if the official stuff is broken this way, or if there is something else is going on.
