Unable to get dell rio receiver to work with xp - 30/08/2005 00:07

I recently upgraded from a windows me machine to a dell running xp. I pulled the 3com 3c410 home networking card out of my old computer and put it in my new one. Windows xp installed a driver for the card and it seems to be working. I am unable to get the audio receiver to connect to the computer though. I suspect my network settings aren't right, but have no idea as I am a novice at networks. Has anyone had any luck getting the receiver to work with xp?

Without getting my hands on your computer and actually checking things directly, there are two immediate things to look at:

1. Don't necessarily trust that the XP driver for that card is actually working. Check the 3com web site for a better driver for it.

2. XP has a networking firewall that's turned on by default. See if that's the thing that's blocking the access.

Yep. I use mine under XP, just not with ARM--I use xPLMediaNet and it works great!

Super easy to setup and includes some really slick other features. Search this BBS for xPLRioNet (the previous generation of the media server software) and you'll find I've been promoting it to others. The website includes a much better writeup of its capabilities. Check it out.

I think the problem was the card that came with the receiver. 3com quit supporting before xp came out. I bought a new card off of ebay that had xp drivers and now I'm getting a blue note. Thanks for your help.
