RSync transfers ZERO files. Why?

RSync transfers ZERO files. Why? - 11/04/2003 10:28

I have the source and desitnation talking to each other fine it seems, but no files are transfered. The destination empeg connects to the souce, gets a file ilst, the file list scrolls by, but none of the files copy. The file system is mounted RW and I'm using the RSync argumente -auv. The destination empeg has only the 100 & 101 FIDs on it. Anyone have some hints?

Thanks,
-Chuck

You might be able to tell whether your problem is with source or destination by syncing (a subset of) the source player to a desktop machine or by syncing some random files from a server on a desktop machine. (By "desktop machine" I actually mean anything other than the empeg)

Have you double-checked the config file (normally /etc/rsyncd.conf) on the server (source) machine? Perhaps you had one but overwrote it when upgrading to 2.00 final?

Greetings!

Also, could you post the command you used and the directory you issued it from? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Toby. The daemon wouldn't start on the source if there wasn't a rsyncd.conf file, so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Hi Paul. I'm using the 'standard' empeg rsync command.

rsync -auv --delete rsync://192.168.0.6/drive0/fids

I'm in the 'drive0' directory. The output looks just like a dry run, the log difference between dry run and not is 1 byte.

Hmmm... Maybe (but this might not be it)...

rsync -auv --delete rsync://192.168.0.6/drive0/fids . (dot)

Specifying the destination directory explicitly.

You DA MAN! All this aggreivation over a d@mn dot. Of course that's now obvious as can be when looking at the rsync man page.

This is all you fault, by the way. I'm getting everything set up for the two 80GB drives that you made me buy.

Thanks again!

Greetings!

Cool! Glad it was something harmless. As for the drives, I always try to spread the joy where ever possible...
