BBS Question - 28/06/2000 10:57

Is there any way I can view all of the newest (i.e., unread by me) messages from all the threads on the BBS chronologically in a single screen?

(I know someone is going to chime in here and say "yes, use the mailing list gateway". But I'm talking about within the BBS interface.)

...I haven't found a way:( It would be nice though; it's kinda annoying jumping back and forth between 5-6 different forums..

I think you could make a simple search. Just search for a single letter (i.e. "e" - this should be in every post) and choose all posts newer than 1 week and the section you want to view. Maybe this would work.

It would work, but it wouldn't show only the messages I haven't read yet.

You can come pretty close to what you want to do...

Set your search parameters as follows:

Forum to Search ALL FORUMS
Words to Search For A E I O U
Search Options OR
Date Range Newer Than One Day
Number of Results to Show per Page 100

This will give you all of the posts made in the previous 24 hours. If you only read the posts once per day, this could work. As long as Calvin doesn't make some sort of post all in consonants, that is!

The downside is that the posts are listed in straight reverse chronological order, so that you can't really follow the threads.

Which is what I want, except my main desire is to read my unread posts in reverse chronological order, rather than by date. Preferably with the BBS tagging them as "read" as I hit each one.

See, my main thing is that I'm going on vacation soon, and I'll be offline for a few long stretches at a time. I want the most efficient sorting and reading method when I get back.

Well, if you can just arrange your vacation so that it is exactly one day, two days, one week, two weeks, or three weeks... then you can adjust the search parameter accordingly, and the only posts it will show will be the unread ones assuming you read all of the posts just before you leave for vacation...

No I wouldn't. There are 2 e-s in "eternalsun" and 2 in "Re: BBS Question" - By the way: Most of the postings are Re's..

That would make you truly hard-core... as if you aren't already.
