LED Kit question - 26/06/2003 00:25

Hi Guys,
I just installed the LED kit from Stu, and the button leds look really nice. I haven't had a chance to hook up the knob board yet.

But, my question is, on the button leds, when you push one of the four buttons. Should just that button flash? or should all 4 flash? I have all 4 flashing on any button press.

Greetings!

All four will flash. It is really an "unplanned feature" that they flash at all. The circuit that controls the button illumination also handles the input press. The input press, having a higher priority, interrupts the illumination briefly, thus the flash.

And they're all 4 fed from the same source/output. By the resistor pack it branches out into the 4 lines, one to each button. So they all see the exact same signal, and therefore behave as a group.

I ordered the kit from eutronix, Stu, If your interested click S/PDIF in the top nav bar. Its only the electronics, no clear buttons. But its alot better than nothing. The light coming from around the knob looks great. And we are going to drill holes in our buttons this weekend. I'll post some pictures after we do that.

See here. Click the "lighting" on the blue bar that comes up on your appropriate page. There will find an option to place the order for the electronics. It's not officially mentioned on the site due to the lack of instructions. The text for the manual is almost complete. The pictures still need to be taken.

We will be stocking translucent buttons sometime in the not too distant future.

When? Where? How? From Who? Are you making them? How many different colors?

Also, Stu, I will email you after i finish building the rest of the kits. So far i've lost a 103, and 1 led for the knob board. I can't believe how small this stuff is.

When - That depends on when and if we can get them from Castingfool. I don't want to say any more at the moment.

Where - On our website

How - Shoving wads of cash in their face Actually just asking politely.

From Who - Castingfool or a local company

Are you making them? - Not likely given the investment in time to learn the process and money in equipment

How many colors - I think we will start with the basic blue, green, red, and orange and branch out from there if there is demand.

Hope this helps,
Stu

I was hoping for a set of smoke-color buttons myself. That's the faceplate that best matches the lighting in my dash (off-white). But, if that's not going to be an option, I could certainly settle for some blue buttons, since it would be a close match for my current CD receiver.

Maybe the smoke color could be offered initally. It depends on how much investment we would have to make in each color, as we would not be making them on a per-order basis as Brian does (did?).

Ouch! Contact me privately about replacement parts. The LEDs are a bit pricey so be careful with them.

And yes, they are quite small, especially the 0603 resistors. I don't know about the rest of you folks out there, but I actually assemble the kits without aid of magnification. The biggest pain is getting the 0603 resistors to stay put, as they have a habit of repositioning themselves.
