USB Problem in XP

USB Problem in XP - 26/06/2003 01:32

I have the Rio Car MK2a model... the serial synch works fine with Emplode in XP... but the USB does not. It has an error on the initialization step. After that, emplode says the device has been disconnected even though it shows it is still there in device manager. I am using the updated USB driver that comes with the latest version of emplode found on the Empeg website. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks!

Actually I've already done that. It still doesn't fix the problem. The same exact thing happens. Any ideas?

Someone else was saying they also had problems with USB and that upgrading the driver didn't work, so I don't disbelieve you, but first I want to make sure:

You did read the release notes and install the new USB driver by hand, correct?

Next thing to check is to make sure USB works correctly for other USB devices on your system. For example, a flash-memory reader or a USB mouse. (Other guy also said this was all fine, we're just eliminating the simple things first.)

Next, can you get the player synching with ethernet instead of USB? (To rule out problems with the player's hard disk or some such.)

yea I installed the driver by hand through device manager. Still didn't fix it.

My printer and my Pocket PC both work perfectly using USB synch.

Haven't tried ethernet because I don't have a router or a switch... I have gotten it to synch using serial however and it works fine... it's just sooo slow.

It's a strange error. If i first plug it in, emplode sees it and says, after selecting it and hitting OK, "Initialization error".

Then after that error, if i restart emplode or just click open database again, it finds it again. I select the player and hit ok... this time it says the device is no longer connected.

Crossover cable will do (assuming you have an ethernet port on the PC at all). But if, as you said, serial synchs work, then it's not hard disk trouble. Hm.

For the moment, I'm stumped. If you want fast synchs and don't care how you get them, then maybe a crossover cable or a cheap ethernet hub will get you going?

cross over cable would be faster than usb? never used one... always just use a hub or something.

how do you go about finding out the address when using a cross over cable? or can emplode automatically find the ip?

You'd have to manually assign an IP address, preferably an RFC1918 address, to both the computer's NIC and the empeg.
