Empeg not leasing an IP Address

Empeg not leasing an IP Address - 26/06/2003 12:26

Hi All;

I'm a little bit concerned that the Network chip is busted on my empeg. I've checked the cable, and the hub, they both work fine. The link LED lights up as it should, but when it tries to lease an IP address I get the following error from my dhcpd server:

ip length 576 disagrees with bytes received 1486.
accepting packet with data after udp payload.
DHCPDISCOVER from 00:02:d7:28:10:c3 via eth0
DHCPOFFER on 192.168.1.20 to 00:02:d7:28:10:c3 via eth0

This is repeated once every 2-3 seconds. I assume this is because the empeg is constantly trying to get an ip address.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance,
Bryan

If you assign the player a fixed IP address (one that's free and in the correct range) does everything work?

Have you tried giving the Empeg a fixed IP address or even changing the DHCP server? Sometimes I think there are incompatibilities.

I can't get into it to assign it a static ip address. I'll have to try when I get home.

Hm. Well, until you can get it home and do that, mess around with some of the other options listed here and see if any of those tricks work.

My players regularly fail to negotiate an IP address from my DHCP server, so you are not alone in that regard. Someday I plan to install the latest and greatest DHCPD software, just to see if it's a server issue that's been fixed at some point.

Cheers

I have whatever tired dhcpd redhat 6.2 came with, and I have no problems. Maybe new is bad?

Maybe not. RPM claims it to be 2.0-5.

(Yay logging into your router as you're zipping across New Jersey on a train)

I thought I was the only one that far behind I've not ever had problems with mine either.

Well, a lot has been upgraded. The kernel is modern 2.4, so iptables and bridging would work. It has advanced routing configured and hostap installed; openssl and openssh are kept up to date and there's some other token crap that actually gets used. But it's still the 6.2 install...

Pretty similar. I'm running a 2.4 kernel and have a gigabit NIC. The box is the fileserver for my house.

I'm planning to upgrade to RH9 before I enable remote logins from the 'net (so I can login from work).

I don't have anything worth setting up gigE for: only one machine is a server and on the network full-time. Everything else that matters is a laptop and can easily be crushed i/o-wise by 100mb.

Actually, maybe some fun with tcpdump would be amusing?
