Using Mk1 HD in a Mk2 ? - 03/07/2000 01:38
Hi there ...
As the TNT Tracker says that my Mk2 is only 1 hour away, i have this late question:
Can i simply put my Mk1 HD into my new Mk2, or doesnt it work this way ??

Ignoring the warranty issues of doing that with a brand new empeg! Hugo has said that the Mk2 runs a different version of the kernel and player software, so it's unlikely to work...

I wouldn't do that yet if I were you - it's a good idea to wait at least a few weeks before invalidating the warranty on a brand new product!
A clone tool is provided with the player to transfer your existing music and playlists to the Mark 2 (you simply plug them both into USB, run the program, and wait!).

Out of interest, does USB allow (and can the SA1100 do) slave -> slave transfers, brokered by the PC, or does all the data go through the PC twice?

No, USB can't do this. And we're not using the USB on the SA, as it's buggy.

BTW, is the clone tool removing the content of the 'old' player or leaves them on ? Here is why, sicne the MK2 is a bit unstable right now, I would like to put the music on the new player to test it @ home, but leave the MK1 in the car until the 2 is stable. CLONE sound slike it stays on the old player, but who knows. Thanks, J.

I've just finished cloning my Mk1 onto the Mk2, and it looks like the contents of the Mk1 are intact, so no worries there.
