troubleshooting installation question

troubleshooting installation question - 11/03/2004 08:03

Should an installation experience more noise if the RCA cables leading from the Rio to the Amp are disconnected at the head unit. In my installation noise is reduced when i reconnect the RCA's back into the Rio line output than if i were to leave them disconnected. Which tells me that noise that is introduced via either the cable or the amp is being 'grounded out' when the cables are connected to the Rio...

any thoughts on this?

Thanks

You might want to try grounding the shields of the RCA cables at the amplifier input. I am not sure if this would help, but it might be worth a try.

Attach a wire to or wrap one around the RCA shields and tie this line to the same ground used by the amp.

You really want to get the advice of someone who knows what they are doing, though. I am (at best) an amatuer installer.

While I'm an amateur as well, I've seen this work on other empeg installations with a ground loop.
