Trouble with EmpegFace - 07/05/2004 09:40

I have just downloaded EmpegFace, unzipped it to c:\program files\empegface and extracted the MSWINSCK.OCX file to system as well as system32 and even installed the VBRun files on a windowsxp machine but I still keep getting this error:
Component 'MSWINSCK.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Anyone have any ideas?

No idea whether it's selfregistering or not, but if not, it's worth giving "regsvr32 c:\path\to\the\file" a shot.

*slaps self upside the head!* I am such an idiot. when I extracted the OCX file it extracted it with the folder it was in even tho I had just the file selected. So I had to go into the system32 folder and move the file from that subfolder and it worked. lol. Gawd im having a blonde day.

I don't quite understand what you said, but mswinsock.ocx should live in exactly one place, and one place only. The readme.txt file tells you exactly what to do with it:

Copy the file to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder on
Win 95/98, or copy it to the WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder on
Windows 2000 or XP. If you've already got the file, don't
overwrite it with this version, use the one you've got.
It's important you follow those instructions exactly to the letter.

What had happened when I was extracting the files I double clicked and went inside of the subfolder you had the MSWIN*.OCX file and right clicked extracted to system32 butwhen it extracted it it made that subfolder in system32 so i had to go move the file. I just wasnt paying attention. the reason I put it in system and system32 was cause i went by the web site first and it said system then read the txt file and saw system32. it works great now..

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, windows zip programs tend to do that a lot (create the sub folder structure for you) without really making it clear what they're doing.
