Is this normal for the handle? - 28/05/2004 12:22

When ever I carry the player by the handle it tends to lock in the pulled out position. I have to push it down to get it to go back down. Once it comes out of the locked state the spring pulls it back in. When I first got the player it didnt do this. I have be carrying it by the handle almost every day so im wondering if im wearing it out or something.

No it's not normal. There's two things that you can try;

Firstly, with the handle down, look at the sled locking tabs that protrude out of the top. Sometimes they latch up against the case side. With a screwdriver, carefully pry them inwards so they can't do this. It might help to take the fascia off to do this.

The other thing that can cause the handle to stick is the fascia itself. The fascia is mounted to the display board but the handle is mounted to the case, so if the display is not square to the case, the fascia is not square to the handle. Loosen the 4 screws that hold the display board to the case and work the handle a few times. This should help reposition the display board. Don't forget to tighten the screws afterwards.

Loosen the fascia slightly (four front machine screws), and insert a folded (double thickness) paper currency bill (Euro, US$, etc..) into the gap between the fascia and the handle (one on each side), and then tighten the fasica screws again.

Will do. Now that I think about it, It wasnt doing this until after I did my hard drive install so I probobly tightened it too much when I put it back together.

No it's not normal.
Actually, my Mk2 has always been like that. I've tried loosening and tightening things, but nothing ever makes it significantly different until I make the fascia so loose as to flop around. That being said, it's always done this, and hasn't changed over time, so the change may be something to worry about.

I havent tried loosing it yet but I did notice after close examination that one side of the handle has a very faint white dot where it has i guess been rubbing against the face. So i think that is my problem. Just need to get off my lazy a$$ and find an allen wrench to adjust it..
