new owner of a MKII - 20/07/2004 15:29

I just inherited a MKII and I was wondering a few things that I couldnt find in the FAQs

1. My remote (Rio ERC-1A) doesnt have the same buttons
DnPP, DirectOK, AM/FM. does anyone know what the equivalent is?

2. My dodge neon has the factory installed tuner and I want to install the empeg to replace it.. Do I need a amp?
(Never done anything with a stero until now)

I have 3 sleds and 3 power supplies ... I'm willing to sell one of each what are they worth now?

The Rio branded ERC-1A remote is the better one. The one with the DnPP buttons etc.. is a Kenwood branded one which although compatible isn't as good. The Rio branded one can do long presses on more of the buttons and it's actually marked properly

If you don't already have an amp in your Dodge then yeah, you'll need an amp as the empeg doesn't have a built in one.

Welcome to the forums!

It's very likely your Empeg does not have a radio tuner. If it does, it will be an external box that plugs into the sled harness.

Here is the button guide for the remote.

Most of your questions about installation will be answered in the FAQ (linked at the top of the page.) If you still have questions, you can post them in the installation forum for better response.

Short answer: yes, you will need an amp or a second head unit with aux. input.

EDIT: Where'd that pebble go?

Those buttons are for a Kenwood head unit. The empeg originally came with a Kenwood remote as the Rio/empeg branded one hadn't been made yet. The Kenwood remote buttons don't directly map to empeg functions. Thats why having the Rio/empeg is better as the labels are accurate.

Oh Indeed I do have a tuner and it isnt the PCATS version either ... took me long enough to realize that little box wasnt a amp with a headphone jack!!!
Its plugged in and works pretty good as long as you have a wire or some metallic object inserted into the antenae jack.

Thanks for the link!! that helps alot ..

Is the sled and power adapter worth much? or is there a company like PCCATS selling them as well?

The sled is worth a bit. It's hard to say just how much because demand and supply are both variable. If I were selling a sled today I'd probably start it at $150 and come down $10 a week until someone bit. I wouldn't be too surprised if it actually sold for $150.

Rob Riccardelli (robricc) did a run of them in black, but has since sold out. He's mentioned another run, but I don't believe there's any timetable on them. When he does, they'll be available through the Sleds link at the top of the page.
