FSCK Question???

FSCK Question??? - 14/03/2005 21:17

One of my players keeps having trouble rebuilding it's databases & playlists. Someone here recommended I run e2fsck. I am currently running it and came to a point where this happened:

Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Deleted inode 258 has zero dtime. Fix? yes

Now what do I do? It appears that it has stopped waiting for me to answer the question? I typed "yes" and hit enter but nothing happened. Can someone lend a hand here.

It's probably just continuing to check. Can you hear the drive doing anything? It isn't going to be massive grinding, but if you can hear head movement at all, you should be okay. It'll take quite a while, especially on a large drive.

I can barely tell, but I think it's still chugging along. It's mounted in one of Mark's home docking stations, so that's making it pretty tough to hear though. I'll just wait it out and see what happens. Any idea how long it might take for dual 80gb drives. I guess it's really only doing one at a time based on the command I sent in HT.

Looks good so far. Got through the long pause and found some other issues to complain about and is now checking something else (ref count or group structure). thanks for your quick help!

/me updates that FAQ entry to indicate that there may be long pauses.

It is if you're a fan of Douglas Adams.

Shwoooooooooosh... right over my head... I guess I'll Google Douglas Adams and see what this meant. Thanks Tony for the FAQ, it's an awesome resource.

Quite welcome.

I just meant that it's a phrase Douglas used in his writing. He'd often deliberately overload common words and phrases like that for humorous effect.

Now where did I put my Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster? It was here a minute ago; hey! where'd that mattress come from?

Might also be worth pointing out that the '-y' in the command line will answer yes to any questions, which is why it's displaying "yes" in the output.
