Need ir receiver ! - 19/03/2005 23:58
Wow I feel bad... I havent posted for such a long time and now here I am asking for somthing
The ir receiver on one of my empegs has gone bad (it has been acting up for awhile). I have checked the solder joints and they are fine and the remote is fine because I checked it with a known good remote. If anyone has one (Paul ?) or has a part number for one I please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I am impatient
so I took a ir receiver from a kenwood car stereo and rewired it to work on the empeg. I soldered wires to the kenwood ir and used a small piece of double stick tape to mount the ir receiver to the empeg board. had to do this because the pinout is different. So far it seems to work great.

Wow neat. I wonder if just any old infrared receiver (such as those found at radio shack) would work?

Nice work.
I do have here a small supply of Empeg I/R receivers, courtesy of Hugo, and have been including them in "care kits" for various owners who have emailed requesting other bits and pieces.
Just a few, for the odd *real* need like this one. Cost from me is about US$5 (total) for the padded mailer and postage.
If you still need the solder-in part, you can email me IN ABOUT A WEEK FROM NOW, please. Just too busy right now, and I'd lose your email. PMs get ignored regardless.
Cheers
I think I have one or two of these from Mark (thanks Mark!). So if anyone else has one that fails, contact me. Mark was kind enough to mail me one, and I'd like to pass the gesture onto anyone in need. Please don't contact me if you just want a spare part.

Wow thanks guys, I will keep that in mind. So far the kenwood sensor is working great but if it starts to have any problems I will get in touch.

Very nice work! I am glad you were able to get it hooked up like that. I wonder - does the receiver element control the receiving frequency, or is that done in software? If it is in the element, it might be possible to install another manufacturer's IR receiver (such as Blaupunkt) and use their remote controls to command the empeg. Random thought...
