Mk2a wont power up in car/dock, but fine in ac - 20/07/2005 16:12

Hi, all.

When I put my spare Mk2a in the dock I bought from Boxer (thanks, Boxer!) after having put on some Greenlights buttons, the only thing that happened was the blue light flashing. This was the first time I have tried it on dc power (I might have tried it in the car a long time ago). When I applied ac power it booted up normally, so I tried it in the car in case there was something wrong with the dock wiring, but the same thing happened in the car...

When I connected up the serial and applied power (in the dock), I got:
empeg-car bootstrap v1.02 20001106 ([email protected])
, quick boot
Power down
Power down
Power down
Power down
Power down
...

The bootlog in ac is normal. I also reflashed it to 2.01 developer (was 2.00 developer) and installed Hijack 434, but no change.

Anyone have any good ideas?

The bootlog from when I plugged in the power in the dock is what I wrote in my previous post.

Bootlog when powered in ac:

empeg-car bootstrap v1.02 20001106 ([email protected])

Re: Mk2a wont power up in car/dock, but fine in ac - 20/07/2005 20:00

Hmmm... Have you tried it in a different car sled or one of Mark's docks? That would isolate an issue with the specific sled.

Edit: Hmmm... rereading your first post, it happens in both a dock and a sled. That implies something bad on the power lines of the player itself or the connector, specifically on the DC link.

Re: Mk2a wont power up in car/dock, but fine in ac - 21/07/2005 20:54

Hmm, this was strange. I opened the player to see if I could see anything obviously wrong (which I didn't), when I remembered Tony had some problems with his ac sensor. But I didn't remember what the symtoms were, so I did a search and found this post, which looked to be the same problem as mine. When I connected the sled connector from my spare sled and applied power to check the diode, it powered up properly... even in the sled and after I had re-assembled the player... So now it works again. Maybe the electrons were flowing in the wrong direction or the phase of the moon was a bit wrong or something the other day...?

Re: Mk2a wont power up in car/dock, but fine in ac - 21/07/2005 21:07

So to recap, it works in one sled but not in another sled, but your Empeg MkII works in both sleds?

EDIT: Never mind, I reread your orginal post, and we're not talking about a blown sled fuse as you're using a ML Dock.

If that's the case, then his problem is very specifically this problem.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. But I reread the thread and I don't think that's it.

Yep, you're right. It isn't... It wouldn't boot up in neither car nor ML dock, but no problems on ac.
