The one powering my home dock appears to have died, and while I'm sure I can pick up one from Maplin with the right voltage, current and polarity, I was wondering if there was a PSU that was generally considered good?

Nope, no single one in particular, just any one with the right voltage, amperage, and other specs.

Thanks Tony - good to know. I'll grab one today then. Think Maplin does a 1.5A one.
