Neighbour Table Overflow - revisited - 08/02/2001 09:30

Greetings!

I have just hooked up the empeg to my local LAN at work, gotten displayserver working nicely, streaming to a number of people around the office, and I am getting these errors on console. I did some searching around the BBS, and I found some good information (i.e., installing a loopback route, bouncing the interface, etc). I know how to do all of this, but...

...where are the tools to do it? I am more accustomed to Solaris (sorry...), and none of the tools I am used to are in the empeg developer distribution (i.e., netstat, route). Can anyone point me to where I can find these? Do I need to load an additional distribution? Lastly, is there a fix or other patch for this? What was the root cause?

yes, you need to install a few more binary files from the debian distribution..
ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato/main/disks-arm/current/

grab the base2_2.tgz and extract it.. you can use the serial port to mount the disk rw, and then you can use a terminal client to send zmodem up to the empeg. (it has sz/rz on it)

Thanks!!!

I am curious - is / was this a bug? Is it something that will be corrected in 1.1?

no, i belive they kept the tools down to a minimum, even in the developer version, to keep the file upload size down.

Greetings!

...And, as is normally the case, as soon as I downloaded the tools, extracted what I wanted (netstat and route) and loaded them into the player, all symptoms mysteriously stopped.

well.. now you know how to load more debugin tools into the empeg.. i installed a nice copy of VI, and ifconfig into mine.. I'm thinking about getting more advanced one of these days.

I installed (I think) Debian package pointed to from developer's site. VI barely works (one has to refresh the screen all the time). As pagers and other curses (or just termcap/terminfo) based things work OK, it must be vi itself. Where did you get yours?
