matching software versions

This might have already been asked but who wants to search this entire thread. Anyway, does the Empeg software version have to match the emplode version for it to sychronize correctly?

Beta7 release notes explicitly say:

You should not run beta7 of the player with an earlier version of emplode, or emplode with an earlier release of the player.
