Mk 1 IDE Cable in the US? - 05/11/2001 20:38

Is there a source for the additional IDE cable required to add a HDD to the Mk1 in the US? The FAQ points to Videk (a UK) company....

Does anyone have an extra cable they want to sell?

Thanks!

Yeah, if anyone has an exact part number from a US company, I'd like to add that to the FAQ.

Compaq use these type of cables in thier older presario line of notebooks, 1200 series and up.
So maybe you could get one from a authorised repairer or something....

Here's a link to a 10" 44-pin IDE cable. The one I used in my Mk1 upgrade was 7" I think, but this should fit with some creative folding. There are also a few other lengths and adapters at the linked site.

I recommend against using a cable that's too long on the Mk1.

There are some things in the Mk1 case which don't tolerate pressure well. For instance, the riser boards in the back of the unit, and some of the components on the back of the display board. If you fold up a too-long cable, you are likely to put pressure on those things, as well as inhibit the motion of the shock tray.
