SACD (Super Audio CD support) - 30/01/2000 04:22

Now that Sony and Philips have released the Super Audio CD, I assume we will be looking at encoders that require much higher dyanmic range (and therefore size of files.) Do you know how the Empeg will support the requirements of tracks encoded using SACD, which uses single-bit encoding to get 100 KHz frequency response and a dynamic range of over 120 db?)

The empeg only does 44.1kHz - and MPEG audio compression only runs to 48kHz max, so I'd have to say no (and the same goes for any other MPEG player).

However, there may be a slight improvement of audio quality if an MPEG encoder was made which used the full SACD data rate on input - it might help the encoding process possibly.
