Jumping tracks after upgrade to 2.0b11

Jumping tracks after upgrade to 2.0b11 - 04/03/2002 13:19

Apologies if this has been asked before, but being new to Rio and the file make up of Mp3's I don't know if I have a bug or corrupt files.

All files affected played OK in Ver1.03 software. Last night I upgraded to 2.0b11 and have noticed some tracks stop playing and jump to the next one. For example Chris Izaak's Wicked game stops playing at 32 secs and the player starts the next track. When I play the track in Winamp it plays fine.
It is a 192 Kb CBR.

Any ideas?

( Asbestos suit on in case this is well known bug )

OK folks - I think I have solved it. I reset the metatags for all files and did a couple of resyncs after reading Tony's reply on a slightly different error.....

Will keep my fingers crossed.

Well folks it didn't work. It played OK in the house once, but when I tried the same tracks today in the car they skipped again.

Should I revert to 1.03 and try them ??

The tracks should not jump or skip in any version of the software, either beta 11 or 1.03. Maybe there's some other problem with the files?

Check the source files with these tools first. Are they VBR files? Maybe you just need to rebuild the headers.

Another possibiliy is a bad disk or bad cable...

Strange. I reset the metadata for all my tracks and tried it in the car this morning. Worked OK, then tonight on the way hoome from work same thing 32 secs into track jumps to next one.

Ran MP3 trim on it last night but it gave it a clean bill of health.

Will try VBRfix as soon as I get it downloaded. Excuse my ignorance but does resetting the metadata also fix headers ?

Another problem possibly related is that the player has ground to a halt when it trys to resync in Emplode ( around 2 mins for 900Mb of files )

Should I reload the current software into the player ( 2.0b11 ) in case it has become corrupted ?

No. The VBR headers are part of the MP3 file itself. The metadata is part of the car player's internal database. Two separate things.

There is a chance that we're looking at drive/cable troubles and the source files have nothing to do with it. Not sure. Can you make it happen on the same source file every time?

The file was one I got on a hard disk borrowed from a friend, so until I get a chance to see him I won't know if a new rip will do the same. VBRfix log says it is a CBR and skipped it, but in Winamp it stopped tonight with a little red "led" in the oscilliscope window, so I am guessing it is really a bad file.

More concerned about my time to connect / disconnect in Emplode. I timed it using first USB and then Ethernet and both took 4 mins to go through all the stages, the biggest pause being reading the player config and writing it.

It was nowhere near as slow until this last few connections

The "long config" is a totally separate problem and is covered in the troubleshooting section of the FAQ right here.

Thanks Tony. I do read the FAQ's but missed that subject entirely ( old age ). Deleting the Favourite visuals cured the problem. I had Spectrolog entered about 10 times in the RH column against AM !
