upload crash - 10/06/2002 06:37

i am having trouble with my new empeg. i have successfully uploaded about 5500 files but the process has become very buggy. It first crashed when i got overzealous and tried to upload about 50 albums.

It then took about an hour to reload in emplode (the "checking disk integrity" ran for a long time (apparently ran thru twice) and then the error log listed albums that "did not match actual # of children detected"

i went back and deleted those albums referred to by this error.

now when i try to upload even a few albums it crashed. now it won't even finish its inital synchronisation in emplode.

error = "download failed ... #0x80072736"

oh yeah, i'm using xp

and emplode 2.00 beta 11

hijack is also installed - checked the pins on the ethernet cable and they are fine

thanks for your help!

Greetings!

Questions:

a) Are you running Hijack, and if so, what version?
b) What is your hard drive configuration?
c) You are using XP - are you uploading via USB or ethernet? USB is known to be buggy under XP.

Observations:

To be honest, 50 albums at a shot is not overly zealous. I have loaded huge chucks on music at a shot, and not had difficulties. The disk check running for a long time is normal - it is fsck'ing the hard drives. I am guessing you are dual drive, since it ran through twice. This is normal, as long as it is not extreme (I see fsck times of 45 minutes per drive, but that is because I am at the extreme end of things.) I suspect that you are seeing one of the following problems (you can search the BBS for more info):

a) a buggy XP / USB interface
b) an early version of Hijack without the checkpoints in place
c) a bad crimp on your hard drive cable

If you are running the developer kernel, I would reboot, drop to shell, follow the procedure for fixing hard drive problems and trying again. If you continue to see problems, post a boot log - maybe something is sick there.

If it is a bad cable, you will need to contact support for a replacement.

Greetings!

You can install the new hijack directly over the old one. The link to Mark's page is in the header on the BBS - just click on Hijack Kernel above. Good luck with the install! Take photos!

HiJack only installs on the player. It never installs on the PC.

hijack version 272 is currently on there. is till can't add files to the playlist without a "synchro..fail .. 0x80072745"

i am trying to install hijack 275 but using the image editor, i keep getting a cannot open port message. i think it's port 1 - i tried all 4 with no luck

Greetings!

Are you able to get to the shell prompt? Did you try fsck'ing the drives? Can you post a boot log? Thanks!
