Leaving EMPEG off for ages - 28/06/2002 07:25

Hi what do you think, I have a backup EMPEG laying in a cabinet brandnew, I just wonder if it is OK to leave it powered off for years, I mean are there parts like rechargeables for the RTC or similar parts in the EMPEG which need some juice from time to time ? Tx SLug

The RTC runs off a big horkin' capacitor which will eventually run out of juice. No big deal. There's no battery of any kind inside the Empeg.

It doesn't, he's mistaken.

The only way to set the clock on the player (in the current software) is from the front panel.

I think remember Hugo saying the big cap (is it a super cap?) should last up to 2 weeks keeping the RTC going. This should charge almost immediately after turning the unit on so there's no need to "give it a good charge" as you would a car battery.

For the record, I recently went overseas for 15 days with my empeg powered off and the RTC kept time fine. And yes although I left it in the sled in my car, I had disconnected the -ve battery terminal (for other completely unrelated reasons)
