New name: Rio Central

Surprised no one posted about this one yet... but for those who didn't catch it on the empeg bbs or at the estore, the Advanced Digital Audio Center is now called the Rio Central. Marketing strikes again.

Yeeah, but no-one has yet explained how come it got to be called the "HSX-109".

rob, tony - care to comment on how the original name came to be.

Rio Central sounds like a train station in South America.

I guess the follow up question is how come marketing didn't change the name before the launch or maybe they realise this thing is going to be more important than they thought so the weird "name" got dropped.
Its certainly a positive sign that Rio are basing their music products around the old '109.

I posted this right here in the thread "Confusion at the SB estore" three days ago.

HSX-109 was part of a company-wide naming strategy, which seems to have been dropped entirely.

H is for home. SX sounds cool apparantly. 1 is a major revision, 0 is a minor revison, 9 is a position within the product line.

So the Rio Receiver, for example, might have been HSX104.

Which leaves 4 slots in the product line between the Receiver and the Central, interesting...

S = Server?

The numbers were really quite arbitrary, and the whole scheme has been dropped now anyway.

S didn't stand for server or anything at all - only the first letter was significant, H being Home, P being Portable or C being Car.

Interestingly one of our VP's had to ask me what the numbering scheme means today - no wonder it was dropped!
