Yay I got it and have questions - 18/04/2003 21:53

The first question I have so far is can I edit the disk info before I record it onto the central. Like now I put the disk in it records it onto the central then I have to use emplode to go and edit the info. Is there someway I can do this on the central ?

Yes. You can do this either with the remote control, or with a USB keyboard.

I'm not sure what you mean. When I press the "power" button on my central or on my central's remote control, the display changes to a clock and the backlight turns off. I only need to press one button, not two.

Please tell me which two buttons you're pressing, and please more clearly define "display is shut off". It's possible that you might be describing a known bug and you need to get the online software update. Not sure.

I figured out how to edit it after the tracks are on the central but is there a way to change the info before it starts recording the CD.

On the HP de100c I have it lets me edit the info then start recording the disk on the HSX109 it immediatly starts to record when the disk is inserted.

Mine has the buttons labeled "standby" not power

Mine goes to the clock when I press "standby" there is also a button on the remote that says "display" that shuts off the display totally. I would prefer it to just totally shut off the screen when I press "standby" and not have the clock.

Now here is a real problem.

My unit keeps rebooting when recording a cd.
I have is set to do multiple cd's and it will just restart while it is recording.

I had it check for software updates and it has the latest. (1.02 build 19 )

I have done about 30 disks and it has restarted 6 times.

Here is another question

What emplode version should I be using.

I tried to use the 2.0 final version that I was using on my empeg but it would crash every time I tried to edit the info for a group of tracks.

edit:
I tried the 2.0 beta 13 version and it seems to work better.

The "info" is the Gracenote CDDB, so if you know how to edit that database file...

Ah. I see. I never turn off the clock.

My unit keeps rebooting when recording a cd.

This is a bug in the factory software. It is corrected in the next software update.

Cambridge guys: Is that one officially online yet?

What emplode version should I be using.

Any 2.0 version shoudl be OK. I haven't had any trouble with 2.0 final. Can you reproduce an exact series of clicks that will cause the problem?

I will try it again after I get all the disks ripped.

Still compressing.

QA insist we screwed portable download reliability so the release has never been authorised. Personally I believe download is no more flakey than it was before.

Re: Yay I got it and have questions - 25/04/2003 10:33

Darn darn darn. I would hazard a guess that there are more folks who would benefit from the update (say, those who bought Dell-branded receivers and need it to run those, or those who record multiple CDs which is probably EVERYBODY) than those who would encounter problems with the portable-download feature.

Is there a way to unofficially release it as an FTP download?

Re: Yay I got it and have questions - 25/04/2003 10:44

...hmmm...tough choice for me since I have a rebadged unit as well as a Rio 800. The download feature makes life a lot easier when doing yardwork since I can download and listen to whatever I want without blaring the stereo throughout the neighborhood.

I wouldn't mind however testing this upgrade and if it doesn't work out to my liking then I can simply downgrade my unit to the old version (couldn't I?)

Provided you already have the old version on a CD, yes. There is no provision for downgrading in the online-update system, it can only upgrade.

...uhhh....I know I've got that around here somewhere. It may be at the office, but it is definately in a place where I can find it.

With the cd included with the unit can I just reinstall the player software without wiping the hdd and losing the music ?

Yes. It is similar to the car player in this respect.

When you insert the CD it asks you if you want to either upgrade the software or "restore to as new". The latter option is the one that erases the music too, quite similar to the builder image on the car.

Cool then I can fix it without loosing everything if I screw it up messing around.

I'm not sure about that... I don't remember whether the standard upgrade needs undamaged software files to function right. The "Restore to as new" will always work, but I don't know if the standard upgardes have been fail-safed like the car player.
