Keeps rebooting when recording

Keeps rebooting when recording - 20/04/2003 17:43

This is getting annoying.

My HSX-109 keeps rebooting when recording multiple disks. It happens after I put a new disk in and press the eject button to make the tray go back in. I sounds like it happens before the disk gets spun up.

Has anyone else had a problem with this ?

It happens intermittently with me so I'v just learned to deal with it. It seems to happen less often when I record cd's without playing them back or streaming to other receivers.

My HSX-109 keeps rebooting when recording multiple disks.

This is a known bug and has been corrected in the next software update.

Cambridge guys: Is that update online yet?

I did the same thing but I finally just decided what the heck there isn't anything better. I keep seeing new products come out but no one can seem to make one that lets you build a playlist on the fly. It must be either really hard to do that or the people that make the players don't listen to music.

Congrats! Did you upgrade the HD yet?

Thanks !

No not yet I thought about doing it right away but all my disks will fit. (ripped at 192K with no portable copy) So I will just wait until it is full. With my luck the display would go out or something and they wouldn't warranty it bacause I upgraded the HDD.

Yeah, I didn't upgrade right away either but was doing a portable copy as well as 320 and filled up the 40GB HD after the first week and only got through about half of my cd's. The bad part was that I had no clue on how to copy the original drive so once I upgraded to 120GB I had to start all over again. I think you'll really like this thing. I wouldn't trade mine for anything and the portable feature is awesome (even though you are not using it). The rebooting at first seems to be a hassle but once you get used to it it's not that much of a nuissance.

It's a lot like doing the car player. Instead of the builder image, you use the software CD and say "restore to as new" on the new disk drive. Then you get both drives in the player (gotta temporarily disconnect the CD-ROM drive to do that part), mount the second drive at the shell prompt, and copy the FIDS folder just like the car player. Someone else here on this BBS has done it, and I thought they posted tips...

The only trick is that to get a shell prompt you need a USB keyboard...

Anyway, doing it all over again is another valid method.

Is there any reason I couldn't plug both drives into a pc and copy the FIDS to the new drive then install the new drive in the central and rebuild the database.

To answer Tony's question, I used the Setup menu on the Central and tried to download new software, but it said none was available....:(

Hopefully soon? Thanks, Randy

Yes, that would work fine, I think, as long as you used Linux to do it, as long as the new drive had been built with the "restore to as new" command from the software CD, and you mounted the partitions properly for performing the copy operation.

I'd be cautious about the backward compatibility of ReiserFS. I can see no reason why it wouldn't work, but I'd prefer to have the same version of ReiserFS on the PC as on the Central. The on-disk layout has changed at least once (IIRC).
