Karma turns on, clicks, restarts, repeats. Help? - 16/12/2004 04:00

A friend of mine's Karma is locking up. It starts up, does the spinning Rio thing, the HD spins up, then you can hear the HD click, and it locks up, with the progress bar not even halfway through the "K" in Karma. Then it restarts and does it all over again, until you hit Lock or do a paperclip reset.

Firmware was successfully updated to 1.68 and it's still doing it. I don't know what it was at before this. The "hitting" trick from Riovolution didn't do anything.

Help?

If the wacking trick didn't work I would guess the HDD is bad.

You did try re-applying the firmware with "reformat" ticked before hitting it, right?

How hard did you hit it? Usually mine can get fixed by just resetting it but it's happened once where I had to hit it quite hard with my hand before it'd unjam itself.

Um, no. Reapplying the firmware and ticking "reformat" did the trick. Thanks!
