VW Steering Wheel Control interface needed

Has anyone interfaced the Empeg to the steering wheel controls in a 2001 VW (Monsoon or not)? I have found a product that will convert the controls to IR for input to any HU (read Empeg), but I was hoping for a wired (read serial interface) solution...

PAC makes them that will interface from VW to Alipine, Pioneer, or Sony.

If you have a tuner, you could probably plug the Sony version directly into your tuner.

Also, John Lambon made a serial version. You may want to attempt that if you're an electronics junkie.

I'll second the recommendation for the PAC unit. I had one installed in my 2005 Xterra, and it works a treat.
