Erm, yes, it's the PJB100 - well over a year old. It's a portable, not a specialist car player. You could use it (or it's competitors) instead of an empeg but there are about a thousand reasons why you shouldn't.

The part I was 'yikes'-ing about was that it looks from that 'review' that it does encoding from a digital stream (cd) too...

No, it doesn't encode; they do supply ripping/encoding software for the PC with it though.
