Have a look at this unit:

Never had time to surf to the JVC site for more info.

My empeg currently has less than that and I'm getting along fine.

I was actually looking at this head unit for my next install. I would still feed the empeg into the JVC's AUX input though.

At least they've got a hard drive in there. I wonder how hard it would be to replace it?

Sony and Pioneer had similar headunits...

so is this better? i.e do I need to sit in the car and rip all my CDs? Or can I take out DVDs with mp3s on them and just copy them across?

I'm guessing it uses the small 1.8'' drives? Is 40gb as large as they get?

No, 60GB and 80GB have been available for some time now.

Cool. Just need to see if it appears in the UK (and hope they don't simply convert the $'s to £'s!

I've had a 60gb drive in my empeg for 3 years now and still only have 19gb full. 24gb would be fine for me.

It's more likely to be using the automotive spec drives, which are rated for more bumps(I think) and a wider temperature range.

It is kind of funny that, even though you can get 80GB ipods nowadays, they describe their 24GB music server as "massive". What's that 80GB ipod, then, "ginormous"? And pgrzelak's Empegs... those must be... infinitormousive, or something.
