17 cm components - 20/02/2002 10:50

Anyone had any experience of Focal component speakers?
It's time for an upgrade and i'm looking at some of theirs, i was also offered Calibre, but not too sure.

For below £200, possibly closer £150. Anyone got opinions. thanks.

I don't know what ranges and model numbers they have, but I can tell you that several years ago, anyone who wanted to win an IASCA competition (THE stereo sound-off competition) was using Focal brand speakers. They were most definitely the shiznit. I also think they were near $1000 to $2000 USD a set, so these may be different...

ah, it could be them. (part of jm labs i think). The ones i'm looking at are the lowest range they do i think. Well nice to hear they may be very good, i wanted to buy some that would do me for years.

I must find somewhere that does those, rockford and mb quart, and demo them. But it's difficult to find somewhere that does lots of brands but doesn't charge the earth.

Focal is a Famous French brand , a JMLab division, which is doing also HQ home speakers ...

Every French caraudio forum is recommending those Speakers.
I plan to buy also.

Take care when installing in your car because its are very 'depthy' : 10 cm

You might want to look at Diamond Audio. I recently bought a set of the Hex series and they rock! I have my EQ dead flat and they sound absolutely great. They also handle lots of power very well. Not sure if they have the exact size your looking for though...

I can also highly recommend Diamond drivers.

What I don't like is this popup at their web site:

WARNING: Diamond Audio does NOT authorize ANY internet sales of car audio products.
Diamond car audio products are designed to be sold and installed by experts at authorized locations.
Products purchased from anyone other than an authorized Diamond retailer may not be new or even genuine Diamond Audio Technology products, and do not qualify for Diamond Audio's limited warranty or technical support.

Is that even legal?

That seems to be a growing trend in car audio... I took my chances and bought them online. Fortunately, I have not had any problems.

Where did you get them from out of interest? I always prefer to use someone thats been recommended.

Doubt they'll be 17cm's any more either, probably going to change the car, and after all my research!

I ordered from buyloud.com. Pretty quick service, no complaints. First time I ever used them. They provide their own 1 year warranty and have a satisfactory BBB rating.

Pretty much the same scenario as JL Audio. Just trying to keep dedicated car-audio stores and installers in business I suppose.
