I'm having problems finding my emeg with JEmplode

I'm having problems finding my emeg with JEmplode - 14/01/2001 00:34

I' m having some problems getting JEmplode to find the empeg. The only time it seems to work is when the empeg can be found via the default route.

I'm working from a laptop with 2 nic's. One wireless that connects to the internet via a cordless modem. I need the default route to point to that modem as a gateway.
The second is used with a crossover cable connected to the empeg. Even though I can ping the empeg via this nic, JEmplode won't/can't find it via the specific address.
If I change the default route to use the wired nic, the empeg is found but access to the internet is deflected also.

Is my problem with JEmplode or is my routing just not quite right yet?

ps. even with the default route pointing out the wired nic, the empeg cannot be found using a specific address.

I have the very same problem. Not with a laptop though. I can ping the Empep, but JEmplode or even Emplode won't find the unit. Emplode can find it via USB, so that's what I have been having to use. I have an Apple Airport I wan't to get running, but unit I can get the Empeg t be found on the network with Emplode or JEmplode I can't proceed.

Maybe someone with expert networking skills will help us out.

Verify your netmask/subnet mask, whatever people call it.

So both nics in the laptop should have an ip scheme similar to:

Nic1 (internal)
ip#:192.168.0.1
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: ip# of nic0

Nic0 (external)
ip#:24.64.... (anything publicly accessible)
netmask: 255.255.255.0 (usaually, but I have seen some wierd ones, whatever this is, make it so for nic1, you will save a whole lot of grief later)
gateway ip: usually a dns server on your isp

Empeg unit:
ip: anything along same subnet as nic1, just increment last octet of nic1 by one, for simplicity.
netmask: same as nic0 and nic1
gateway: nic1 ip addy

that simple arrangement should allow the os to geneerate the default routes necessary for emplode to function. Now if someone builds a web browser for the empeg, well, it should work in this situation as well.

Now if you already have this setup, and I have typed with a hangover for nothing, well, then it would appear that your routes (that's rrr-ow-t-s, not roots; ground, not earth) are not in order, but I suspect that with your current setup, you are having an inconsistency with your netmask.

but that's me, not you...I tried.
Now whatever happened to the spel chek?

Thanks SmokerMan, Responding to anything whle hungover is above and beyond.

I think I found the solution. The full installer at http://jempeg.sourceforge.net still uses jempeg-0.9.13.jar. This is what I was using. The fix was to get "jempeg-0.9.14.jar".

This BBS used to have a spell checker on that screen. It disappeared in the upgrade from PL to PHP. Odd.

Well, I am not caught up on my Jemplode, but taking a quick look at the differences, sure, whatever, if it works, dont fix it!

I too am curious as to what happened to the spel chek??
I posted a note into the annoucements forum, in reply to the board upgrade notice, but it seems it was never "approved" nor answered.

Regarding the spell checker...

It disappeared in the PL to PHP upgrade. I've left a message for Paul to see if he thinks that a rollback might be in order. I was able to come up with a list of about five things that aren't working right since the PHP upgrade (some of which even you guys don't know about).

And by the way, this morning I encountered a read/unread tagging problem, too, even though all this time I hadn't had it happen up until today.

Granted, its spelling checking capabilities were nothing to write home about, but its amusement value was quite high...

Is it possible that broadcasts are not allowed across the Airport? Have you tried using the static IP option of Emplode/JEmplode?

Re: I'm having problems finding my emeg with JEmpl - 18/01/2001 08:20

Yes I tried the static IP options as well. Found one problem, was ZoneAlarm was blocking my transmission. I can find the Empeg more easily now with Ethernet.

So I pulled out the ol Airport to give it another try, and somehow I crashed the unit. All I get is a left red light. I have been on the phone with Apple trying to trouble shoot it. They want me to force a reload to the unit of the software. Must have a MAC to do. Well I have an old 7100 with MAC OS 8.6. Well the software finds the Airport in reset mode and says it successfully upgrades the software, but the Airport doesn't reboot. The right light just goes amber. So Apple tech tell me that since It could still be a software problem with the MAC, because Airport software ain't supposed to run on anything below MA OS 9.0.4, I need to try and find another MAC that has more current software or upgrade before we can proceed. I know absolutly no one with a MAC. So, I reluctantly bought a copy of MAC OS 9.0.4 to try and solve the problem. The Airport software still tells me it can't be installed on this computer. So I run the Admin util anyway to force a reload and same things as before. Says it works but doesn't. Anybody ever had to do this to reset an Airport?

Probably a stupid question, but you have tried the little factory default pinhole on the bottom of the airport right? -Mike

Re: I'm having problems finding my emeg with JEmpl - 18/01/2001 13:54

The hole on the bottom will cause the airport to require a reload of it's software. I did find Freebase will send the files to the Airport, the hard part is getting the necessary files to the PC to send via Freebase. It's been a while since I had to do this, and I ended up using a Linux machine to mount the Airport CD and grab the .bin file when I had to reset my Airport.

Re: I'm having problems finding my emeg with JEmpl - 18/01/2001 15:20

You are correct, you are suppose to send files to the Airport after pressing the Reset switch(hole on the bottom). I couldn't get freebase to find the Airport and didn't have the needed bin file. I looked on the MAC CD for a bin file, but don't see anything. Which file are you talking about. But I do have a MAC 7100 to use to do this. Well, after a while on the phone again with Apple, they come to the conclusion that the modem in the Airport is not resetting and that is what the left red light means. They are gonna send me a new one in 3-5 days. So I guess I will resume my Airport work then.

Really? I thought it was just supposed to reset all the config settings. Interesting.

Well, I though this too. And I know I reset this thing a time or two and it did just that. But now that it don't work and I have had to talk to Apple and got on their forums and look around. You are suppose to load software during the five minutes of reset.
