emplode source ? - 24/01/2001 14:47

Is there any chance of getting the source for emplode ? the file transfers seem awfully slow and i'd like to fix that if I can.
Or convince myself it's as fast as it can be :-)

the source for the linux tool is avaliable, and yes.. there are known speed issues.. if i could remember which threads.. i'd link them.. if you are having ethernet speed issues.. try USB.. it's about as efficient as possible

No - emplode isn't open source. However, emptool *is* open source and the protocol layer (which actually does the transfers) is common between the two.

The speed on USB is limited by both the USB controller in the empeg (which can't saturate USB, in common with most slave controllers) and the protocol. v1.1 when used over ethernet does stuff with a separate TCP channel for stuffing the file data down (much like FTP) which roughly doubles the throughput.

Well, I can't even get USB to work in some cases. I would, however, suggest setting the SO_SNDBUF to at least 64k on NT. It will help performance a bit.

Did you say DOUBLE the throughput? Meaning transfers over ethernet will be about TWICE as fast...?!

1.1 is getting harder to wait for every day....
