emptool ports - 10/03/2001 22:58

I have compiled emptool for freebsd (3.2) and NT. the freebsd differences are minimal and would perhaps be worth putting in the distributed software itself. The NT version only works over ethernet (it may work over serial, i didn't bother to check. USB , of course, cannot).

I only just finished the freebsd port, so I haven't had time to check much other than that i could connect to the empg and ls -r the whole tree. the differences in compilation were mainly incompatible type definitions etc. so it should really work just as well as the linux version.

the NT version is a pain to compile, but i have sucessfully added and removed files from playlists.

In both cases, I can't guarantee that it won't fry your database, but if there are enough interested brave people, i'll put them on my ftp site.

Please do. There are situations where Perl+emptool combination is far superior to interactive-only tool like emplode.

Thanks!

Agreed, the freebsd version would come in handy for me from time to time. -Mike

emptool v1.02 for freebsd can be obtained from
ftp.blarg.net:users/amol/empeg
I will put the NT version up later.

The .tgz file contains the source, with original files renamed to .orig. In case you find any functionality missing, you can easily determine if I hacked off a vital limb.

My VMWare trials expires in about 20-25 days, so i'll be able to fix bugs until then.

Note that I compiled these on freebsd 3.2 with gcc 2.95.2.

emptool-nt.tar.gz is now available in the same place. you will need visual c++ to compile it.
despite the name, it probably works on win9x,but I can't
help you with any problems if it doesn't.
Please don't use it unless you are prepared to deal with some bugs. I'm still trying to decide between making a really nice version of 1.02 or waiting for 1.1 where presumably the wire protocol changes.
