@work/@home feature - 07/02/2002 10:29
Hey folks, this is probably a real ignorant question, but i cant seem to figure out how this @home/@work feature works. The config.ini file sits on the host computer is that correct? Does RIO read this file?
Bottom line: I am going on a road trip (to the Olympics) and will want to entertain everyone in the RV with the RIO. What exactly do I have to do to assign the RIO a manual IP address so I can control it via Hijack and a laptop using the HTTP server.
Thanx,
-Ted

Hi Ted,
If you always want a fixed IP then just set it in emplode config Player.
Otherwise, config.ini is on the RIO in the empeg/var folder. This too can be edited in emplode. Do this and modify the network section:
[Network]
Gateway=0.0.0.0
Netmask=255.255.255.0
;@HOME IPAddress=192.168.0.99
;@WORK IPAddress=192.9.200.199
;@DC DHCP=0
;@WORK DHCP=1
;@HOME DHCP=0
Then in WORK mode, it will get the address from DHCP, at home be fixed.

And why you are predefining a IP Address (;@WORK IPAddress=192.9.200.199) for work! Just in case?
Thanks

Yep!
Our DHCP server works in mysterious ways.

Maybe you have to ask Mark to build in a DHCP Server in the Hijack
.
thanks

Here's a kind tip which can possibly eliminate the need for @home/@work network configs: Use Internet connection sharing under Windows ME/2000 or XP. ICS runs a DHCP server that will assign any machine on the network an IP whether it's a windows box or not. I used to use feature all the time when I brought my laptop from home and to work.

ok, things are starting to clear up. thanks for the replies.
now, how do i invoke work or home mode on the unit? (i.e. tell the RIO it's at work or at home).
thanks

1. Make sure you have hijack installed.
2. Hold down the volume knob and select Home/Work Location
Here's my long instructions from another thread.
