Turbo Countdown Timer....

Turbo Countdown Timer.... - 27/02/2002 05:52

That's it, I'm gonna try my hand at writing some stuff for the Empeg!

Stage 1 = Turbo Timer, to keep that there engine running for a cool-down after powering down!

Stage 2 = Connect to OBD II and read some engine stuff, maybe use it to alter the time delay on the turbo timer!

Not sure how it's all gonna work yet, maybe I'll need to build some extra I/O ports and stuff, and it's gonna take some learning on the programming ..... but it'll be fun!

Anyone done anything with engine management (OBD)? Links to further infomation would be much appriciated!

Cheers,

Mark.

There's a thread about OBD-II in the projects forum: OBD-II Car Diagnostic

I have an OBDII interface limping along on the empeg. I'm having trouble taking over the serial port when docked with the player running but otherwise real close.

This is just the basics, i.e. displaying the 32 mode 1 PIDs supported on the vehicle. It's the start of a much larger project.

I'll post over in projects when there's something to see. In the mean time take a look at the ELM323 from elmelectronics. That's what I'm using.

This would be great. I have a turbo (Mitsu makes all of them) in my WRX and have been looking at a turbo timer. Even if we had to completely shut down the player software to run OBD-II software, that'd be awesome!

Cheers,

Do me a favour and email me when you release anything empeg @ 3000GT.co.uk!

I've been doing some research on OBD II and the possibilities are quite exciting, but it looks like some hard work before any results are to be seen!

Woow, OBD II is amazing!!

Intelligent Turbo Timer looks quite easy, I'll probably perfect it on a laptop before messing with the empeg though!

What's more interesting is the diagnostics data and possibilities for tuning and monitoring!!!!

I guess there's a lot of research to be done here, but it's very facinating stuff....

Ok, forgive my total ignorance in this but, what is OBD II exactly?

I have a VW Polo III . Is there any parameter of the car that can be monitored/modified by some hack in the empeg sw? If so, how?

Thank you!

Do you happen to know any Mitsubishi specific OBD codes? My empeg lives in a 3G eclipse.

I can read the basic PIDs but haven't found any others yet.

Rex.

Hi,

I've got all the codes for the 3000GT from the engineers service manual but I don't know if they are the same for the Eclipse!

I'll scan them in and put them on a website somwhere if it's any help!

Re: Turbo Countdown Timer.... - 03/03/2002 17:28

Thanks, they would be handy.

Are they the trouble codes or the PIDs or both? It's the PIDs (sensors) I'm looking for at the moment.

Cheers,

Rex.

Been a while since I read the book but I think both sets of codes are buried away between the technical sections!!!!!

OBD II - On-board-diagnostics (Version 2)!

It's a common interface between your engine management system and the outside world!

It allows you to tap into the brain of the car and monitor sensors, such as speed controllers, injectors, exhaust gasses, etc, etc, basically most things that the engine management system can monitor!

Also, in some cars, you can back modify the parameter tables of your enging management and effectivly "tweak" your performance! For example altering the amount of air/fuel at given revs!

There is lots of stuff about it on the web, try doing a search for OBD in one of the popular search engines,
