02 GMC Yukon Denali Install - Bose - 02/01/2003 18:32

Has anyone successfully installed an empeg in a GMC Yukon Denali? I have the premium BOSE factory equipment, and a six disc integrated changer.
The goal is to get the empeg to work as seamlessly as the changer does, in the same spot. I also would go nuts if I could get the steering wheel seek controls to drive the empeg.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is a pic of the changer, which is mounted directly below the previous picture.

One or more of the interface products here might be the ticket:
http://www.go2pac.com/
Look under Products|OEM Interfaces.

These say they interface directly with the Bose product. And the steering wheel interface gizmo might be exactly what you need. This works with Kenwood products in the 38-40khz infrared range, so if Kenwood remotes work with the empeg then....

What is the empeg remote frequency?

Good luck,

I downloaded the instructions for the AAI-GM9. It looks similar to what I did. It requires you keep the cd-changer so you'd have to mount it somewhere else. This adaptor comes with a switch to go from the headunit to the cd-changer to the auxillary player (the empeg). Hint: You can automate this switching by using the power from the empeg that runs to an optional tuner. If you set the screen blanker to power off when the screen is blanked then the power line to the tuner will go off also when screen is blanked. With a relay and the instructions you can hook up the adaptor to switch to auxillary when you unpause (turn on) the empeg etc.

I ordered a AAI-GM9 today. Thanks for the tip on the screen blanker. I noticed that the changer does not seem to be DIN sized. Did you have to hack your dash to get the empeg to fit? the initial lplan is to mount the changer in the console, and place the empeg in the original changer hole. It would be great to see a pic of the finished product if you have one.

Unfortunately my empeg didn't come with a remote . . . anyone out there have an extra they would be willing to part with?

If no one is willing to part with a Rio remote, then you can always get the Kenwood KCA-R6A which used to come with the MkI player. You could also use most any other remote (as long as it sends on the same frequency band and with the recognized protocol) and map the codes it sends to codes understood by the empeg by using Hijack and the ir_translate functionality.

It came with the MkIIs, as well. The Rio remote didn't happen until the RioCar (aka MkIIa) came out.

I extended the wires for the changer and mounted it in the rear compartment above the jack etc. Fitting the empeg is a little tricky. The peice covering the cd-changer & computer pulls off. I slowly filed this piece around the changer opening until the empeg slid thru it. I cut about 1/8" off the slide in cage and mounted it BEHIND the center console cover. If you line things up correctly your empeg will slide in and out. It looks stock. Let me know if you have any other questions. I've been trying to bum a digital camera to show the install unfortunately haven't had much time to do this. I'll try this week to get a foto or to up so you can get an idea what I'm talking about. Let me know how the adaptor works out.

Sweet. . thats exactly the info I needed. I actually thought about mounting the CD in the console. Thanks for trying to get a picture up; seeing how someone else got it done may be what gets me over the top.

OK, I've taken the pictures of my install. Sorry for the delay but it's been soooo cooold here lately, been avoiding going out and tearing apart the install. Anyway, I have the pictures on a old Kodak digicam with no USB. Since I don't have a slot for the card in the camera I have to find an adaptor to attach to a serial port. As soon as I get them downloaded I'll post them.

Camera sucked so I got rid of it. Then traded in the Denali for a Saab. (Which is where my empeg now resides). Forgot to keep the pictures (still on the camera I think, which is probably still warming up ). If anyone needs advice in mounting their empeg in a Denali/Yukon etc. let me know as I have a lot of experience both good and bad.
