Soundgate Stalk Interface problem

Soundgate Stalk Interface problem - 06/10/2003 21:17

I'm hooking up a SoundGate CRSW1 to Tod's Durango.

GM Steering wheel -> CRSW1 -> Tuner module.

Only four of the five steering wheel buttons generate a button code. I could swear someone else reported this once upon a time, anyone ever resolve it?

Follow up:

Two of the five buttons tended to generate a button code intermittently. So at least some of the time, all five buttons worked.

Things that seemed to help (but we're not sure):

- Supplying power to the Soundgate interface from the ignition wire instead of the blue Amp Rem power wire.
- Plugging the antenna into the tuner module.
- Cramming everything into the dash and screwing it all in place.

There is also an unrelated issue: Some of the control inputs are delayed. When you press a button on the steering wheel, there is a delay before the player interprets the button press. This is also intermittent. It was reported elsewhere on the BBS so it's a known issue. It made diagnosing the other (above) problem hard.

I put car_rate=115200, notify=0, and suppress_notify=1 in the appropriate places in config.ini just in case it was a serial problem. Didn't solve the delayed controls.

I originally tapped the power and ground of my Soundgate interface to my tuner wires and had problems getting it to work correctly (getting buttons to work consistently, slowness of operation, some buttons not working at all). When I used a different source for power the problems went away. I never did find the exact reason this happened.

Interesting. He gets the battery icon when the player boots, so maybe this is a low voltage problem.

There's some other things going wrong with his car that might possibly indicate an electrical problem, so he's going to have all those things checked and see what's going on.

Come to think of it that was another symptom, a battery indicator came on quite a bit.

So whatever you did to correct the battery indicator also corrected the problem with the soundgate interface? That's REALLY good to know. Because it means that it should be fairly easy to correct.

Yes removing the tapped power from the tuner cable for the soundgate (retapping in the fuse box) did the trick for me. Everything started working properly and every steering wheel button push could be mapped via hijack.
