home power no go

home power no go - 20/12/2003 04:46

Hi there
A question concerning a mk.2 home connection: After years of hard work, my player suddenly stopped working at home. When I plug in the DC adaptor (and I checked it with numerous adaptors) the power LED on the top-right corner goes on and off... and that's it. No logo, nothing. In my car the player works fine.
Any ideas?

p.s. I'm a newbie... Please forgive me.

Greetings!

But it works fine in the car? If it is okay in the car, then it is either the power supply (the adapter itself) that might have a bad connection or a problem with the AC power socket / circuitry in the empeg. Do you have another power adapter that you can try in the player, making certain it is the exact same rating first?

Thanks man!
Well, as I said, I tried different adaptors (with different ratings...) and while some didn't even light the LED - probably not enough voltage - all the others had the same result, of a "standby-like" blinking LED. Any ideas? Anything I should check in the player, using a voltmeter or anything else?
Thanks again,
Ury

Well, your next step is to hook the player up to the computer and capture / post a full boot log using hyperterminal. That will show if there is a failure of one of the components. Given that you are getting the blinking standby light, you should be getting somewhat into the player.

Damnit, every time I see this thread I figure it's going to be about roof-mounted solar panels...

Sorry.

Ok, what I get is the following text:

"e000 v1.04
Copying kernel...
Calling linux kernel...
Uncompressing Linux....) If there is anyone present who wants to upgrade the fla
sh, let them speak now,
or forever hold their peace...it seems not. Let fly the Penguins of Linux!"

...and it's repeating itself over and over (until I pull the plug).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ury

p.s. sorry about the solar panel association

Try installing the Version 2.0 final player software again. Perhaps it's just corrupted flash.

Bad news (for me):
During the programming of the new version I got the following error message:

Error "Couldn't find pump" occurred during stage 0x20

And after the re-programming, I still get the same repeating message when I plug in the "home" power adaptor. Hopefully it will still work at the car...
Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Ury

Are you running emphatic or other 3rd party software?

EDIT: Nevermind...it doesn't seem to be booting that far.

Question: does it work okay in the car?

Yes. As I said, it works as it always did in the car. But I really really really wanna upload some new cd's .
Any ideas? Any other information I can give you?

Thanks,
Ury

Re: home power no go - 23/12/2003 13:17

You said you tried different power supplies with different ratings. However you did not say if any of the power supplies you tried met the minimum requirements.

Trying another power supply is not a proper diagnostic test if it does not meet the requirements. There is a chance that your power supply simply went bad and you need another one. But until you actually have another one (a proper one) to swap out, you'll never know if that's the problem.

Re: home power no go - 23/12/2003 13:43

I guess that this is a good point! Non of these adaptors rate over 1A! I put all my attention to the voltage and forgot about the amperage. Sorry guys. I'll look into that.
All the best,
Ury

And right you were! Sorry about all that. Now it works fine, and it was an inapropriate adaptor.
Thank you all and have fun,
