Mustang Installation (99-00)

I am considering buying an Empeg for my 99 Mustang. I did a search of this forum and a few things turned up that got my attention. First, someone said that the interface between the CD player and head unit is proprietary, and that connecting a CD player to the Empeg would be difficult or impossible. Can anyone verify this? I would really like to keep the ability to play CD's on occasion. Also, if anyone has any general notes on what they did with their Mustang install, or things they ran into, I'd love to hear your stories.

Mostly correct - connecting the factory CD player to the empeg would be difficult or impossible(AFAIK). An aftermarket head unit would be easy.

I've had 3 SN-95 'stangs, and haven't really run into any problems installing stereos in them. If you have any specific questions, feel free to mail me.

This leaves unsaid hooking up a CD-Changer directly to the empeg, which I am sure is altogether a different challenge if you do not have one of those FM changers.

I'm not sure how you'd control it - the RF changers come with a remote, and the standard changers have a cable that allows control from head unit.

With some custom hardware, you could probably use the control bus, but I would think that controlling it from the empeg would be difficult, at least until it has the ability to spawn 3rd party apps from the menu. You'd probably have to rig a remote or something.

Well, I'm just wondering what else I'll have to buy to have an Empeg in my Stang. I guess there's no way to use the factory head unit? If I have to scrap my head unit (and of course CD player) then I'm looking at some significant addiitonal cost... sigh.
