Audivox/Sirius tuner install - 09/08/2004 11:48

Recently installed the Audiovox Sirius tuner in the car and instead of the FM Mod i ran rca's to the aux in...now i get severe ignition noise...static and whine...i am confidant that it is leaking in through the cig lighter adapter...

anybody else experience this, and if so, what is the best way to solve it?

Thanks

Ed

Where is your Sirius tuner getting power / ground from? You probably need to have them all at the same level / source. If it is the lighter adapter, that is probably a very noisy source...

Paul,

Agreed....however...i understand that the cig plug steps down the voltage from 12 to 6....otherwise i think they would have offered the hardwire option...

i tried putting a ground loop isolater in the path..but it literally killed the signal

Crutchfield suggested that i wire the cig lighter plug into the wiring of the head unit...as you allude to...and i think that is the way it will have to go

i was just wondering if in fact anybody had actually done this...

Please try grounding the RCA cable shields. This was a known issue with the Aux-in of some players.

Tony,

So i would just solder some ground wire to the shields and ground them to the chassis?

Precisely.
