Subaru upgrade

Subaru upgrade - 28/06/2007 17:36

Well, it looks like I have persuaded SWMBO to have my old Scooby, so I can get a new one. Luckily I have a spare sled so I'm going to follow the various threads posted here on installation in the newer shape Scoobies - am anticipating a certain amount of dashboard dremeling...

Have been test driving and I think it will have to be either the new WRX STi with PPP or the RB320 (both of which can get to 60 in well under 5 seconds)

Can't wait - and will post install pr0n as and when:-)

Sweeet!

One of my customers just got his RB320 that he's been talking about for the past couple of months. Can't wait for him to come down in it so I can have a look and go for a quick ride around the block.

Very nice.

I was stuck in a dealership with a RB320 for 40 minutes the other month and nearly bought it. If it came in a wagon I think I would have bought it.

I suggested to Eryl that she should have our wagon so I could get an STi, but she didn't think she really wanted all that extra servicing cost (she drives a Fiesta at the moment).

Andy - my tactic was to work away for two weeks leaving Claire my car (MY00 Impreza Wagon with PPP). After one week of being able to overtake she was hooked! Not sure how much trade in we'll get for her Punto...

There is no problem with Eryl being hooked on the Scooby, she has put more miles on it some years than I have...

Ultimately she wants a powerful "sofa" car, probably a 7 or 5 series. She also wants a Citroen C6 with TGV rear seats, just waiting for the frightening depreciation to make it affordable

Hahahahahahaaa - Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I found a Subaru Forester STi very similar to the one on the video here:
http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/subaru_06forester.asp

but in black, and with over 30 more horsepower. 4.6 seconds to 60!!! Corners like it is on rails. Huge Brembo brakes. And because it is a Japanese import converted for UK, it has proper DIN slots, which will make empeg'ing it straightforward.

The joy - the huge grin on my face. Will post install pics as soon as I get around to it.

I assume that is a second car ?

Edit:

Ok, I've re-read the thread now

XJR :

Re: Subaru upgrade - 21/10/2007 08:56

Jags are out, for two reasons. Firstly Eryl sees them as "old mans" cars. Second is that they have so little space inside compared to the same size BMW. I do like the look of the XJR from the outside though.

Re: Subaru upgrade - 21/10/2007 12:02

Well, I don't agree with the 'old man' view - but then we balance the Jag with the Tuscan so.... <grin>

They're definitely not 'practical' cars
Style over substance!

Re: Subaru upgrade - 21/10/2007 12:06

and we'll be balancing the BWM/Citroen with a Tuscan 2, the MX5 and the Scooby

Re: Subaru upgrade - 21/10/2007 14:36

Cool - I can definitely suggest install tips for the Tuscan

Have you got it yet? - I take it the drive around Scotland went well? that wasn't that long ago - quick work!!!

A question about your scooby.

When they say 6-Speed Manual, does that really mean six forward gear ratios plus reverse, or is it just what we over here would call a 5-speed (5 forward ratios, plus reverse) ?

Re: Subaru upgrade - slight change - 21/10/2007 14:56

I'm sure it means 6 forward gears. My car has such. Have you not encountered this before?

I bought my 5-speed scooby Forester over nine years ago, and haven't looked at a new car (other than Smart) since then. Back then, I believe only the more exotic vehicles offered anything other than 5-speed (or automatics).

Cheers

I don't know about the US/Canada, but there are quite a few cars in Europe with 6 speed manual box now.

Not yet, the drive round Scotland went very well indeed. The complication is that I now want a late Tuscan 2 Convertible, rather than a Tuscan 1. It will probably take me a while to find the one I want, looks like there are only about 50-60 cars out there with the spec I want and half of them probably have awful interiors or exteriors.

Re: Subaru upgrade - slight change - 21/10/2007 20:17

Mark - you would love it. Claire has kind of wanted a Forester for ages, and this is still a Forester, and does all the normal stuff...until you put the foot down and then it is awesome!
