My Install

My Install - 04/11/2000 12:56

Well, I'm finally getting pics of my installation up here. it's been a while since it was done, but I've been lazy. You know how it goes.

Anyway, attached is my first pic, of the van itself. It's a Honda Odyssey which, I will state again, is a truly kick-ass vehicle, even for a college student. Notice the liscense plate.

Here's a pic of the amp. Here's the Alpine amp they recommended, the model number is MRP-F356. That doesn't mean much to me but it sounds great.

They had to put it under the driver's seat for a reason you will see later. It sticks out because of the power seat mechanism.

Here's a shot of the sub console. The top plastic part used to be a tray that folded down but they detached it and screwed it to the top of the box.

Inside is an MTX 5000 series sub. 8" I believe. It may not be much but it's great for me. It's enough to vibrate my rear-view mirror.

Sorry, forgot to attach that last pic.

A bit of the construction of the sub box on the front side.

I think they did a fantastic job on building this box. It matches the carpet better than it looks in this picture, and it's really sturdy. They did a really good job.

Here's the entire dash. The empeg is out in this picture because it was taken while the player was in for repair.

Here is a pic of my 2 favorite toys. My navigation system and my empeg. The nav system came with the car, and the DVD player where the map disc is stored is under the passenger seat. This is why they couldn't put the amp there.

Honestly, at first glance I get more gasps over the nav system, but that's to be expected. Once they know what the empeg is and a little about it, they are very impressed.

Well, that's my show folks. Hope you enjoyed it!

And in case you were curious and live in Virginia, I got the installation done at Sound Solutions in Chantilly, VA.

They were very knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. And advantage was that they had already installed a Mark 1 before, and in a Corvette. I figured if someone entrusted their Corvette to them, they're okay!

My install was done by a guy named Chris McNulty, but I'm sure there are other people there who could help you.

Excellent posts. You must be an engineering student with a sentence like: "..even for a college student. Notice the liscense plate." ;-)

Seeing how I will be starting the install into my 2002 Odessey, I would be very curious as to how they got the old unit out. I have the exact same setup you do (GPS, etc) so it should be similar. But since this model is new there is very little info on line about modifications to it. I like where you put the subwoofer but don't want to lose that space on mine. So it will be interesting to find some other place to put it. But any insights (no pun intended) you can give on your install would help.

I'm strongly considering one for my 2001 Odyssey EX. Not sure if I can add it BELOW my existing headunit or not though. I may need to just get the radio adapter and replace the existing headunit instead. Comments?

Re: My Install - 07/11/2001 14:25

Based on the install kit I had to use for mine, I think the space below is too small for a second unit. You might be able to mount it in the space for the pull-out tray if you don't mind losing that feature and want two head units. I would suggest getting the radio tuner, install the empeg, and forget whatever you have in there now. It really does play much better without the stock radio.

Re: My Install - 07/11/2001 14:35

Thx! Sounds like sound (ahem) advice. I'm now looking at the rio unit, the receiver and an amp. Not having a CD isn't a big deal in this case - just rip it and drop it onto the HD.

The subwoofer will have to wait, though I intend to think through that when shopping for an amp. Crutchfield, here I come ...

Ah, he sees the light. If only everyone else were so open-minded.
