I covered up part of the vfd and somehow got the viewing angle right on the first try. I didn't do the bottom of the vfd because sometimes I have the empeg up high in a stereo cabinet.

This is an odd question but....

What kind of magic marker did you use?

I don't know what Terminator used, but I used Sharpie brand fine point and ultra fine point markers.

Is it removable? Might it cause to the PCB?

It's not removable, that why the word "permanent" is on the markers.

I haven't seen it cause damage to the PCBs. The only thing you might do is slip and make a mark on the VFD glass or on the IR window where you didn't mean to. Or perhaps you might mark the glass in such a way that it blocks your view at a steep parallax angle. But otherwise it's not going to hurt anything I don't think. And watch that fill nipple on the VFD...

do you have to worry about making straight marks and stuff? I haven't really sat down and stared at the problem with marker in hand yet. You are responding to this thread so fast i'm getting worried.

Sorry, I thought you had seen the FAQ Entry and pictures and instructions on this already. Might want to check those.

I saw the pictures and instructions, but not the FAQ. Thanks. You should put the brand of marker in there as an example.

Well, the brand of marker is right there in the photos, but OK.

Done.

I used a black sharpie fine point for the easy to reach spots and a ultra fine point one for tight spots. Don't let the permanent marker bit fool you. A bit of alcohol on a soft towel removed the sharpie from the vfd with no problem. I initially colored in the right side of the vfd too, but decided that may cut off part of the screen for passengers, so I took it off. The only other thing I used was a lens blank box for a straightedge.

The sharpie didn't damage the pcb. Wiping the sharpie off the pcb with alcohol might.

How's the ink holding up in the sun? Is there any fading or coloration?
