Hi, im having a problem with sound quailty,I hooked up my player to two amps a 1500bd fosgate for base hooked to the rear rc on the riocar and I hooked a 800 h2 to the front rc . the problem im having is the EQ is not recognizing the front from the back and im getting base thru my highs. Is there a better way to hook up the riocar when using two amps

Please be more specific. Not sure where the problem lies. I'll take a wild guess based on the sketchy information given:

If you are trying to use the 4-channel equalizer in place of a true crossover, (by cranking down the low frequencies to your front speaker pair) you will create "holes" between the bands where some bass still leaks through.

This is because the EQ deliberately narrows the bandwidth of each band as you crank it farther away from zero. The solution is to hand-modify the Q parameter so that the bandwidth is wider for the "cranked down" bands.

HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE that there is a bug in the beta-11 EQ where one of the two channels is not properly saving the Q parameter in L/R locked mode. This will be fixed in the next beta release. In the meantime, use independent 4-channel mode to set independent Q's until the next release.

There was also a bug where 4-channel mode wasn't getting set properly at power-up, but I think that has been fixed in beta11.

Personally, I found it easier to simply buy an amp with a built-in crossover. They're not that expensive these days.

Re: amp install - 18/03/2002 17:52

I called the the place that installed my riocar and they told me that the riocar is not designed to be a stand alone unit, and it would sound better If I got a second head unit and ran it thru the aux in of that unit.

Re: amp install - 18/03/2002 17:52

Do the amplifiers have any built-in crossovers? Is your problem specifically the "bass gets into the front speakers" problem?

If the amps have built-in crossovers, my recommendation is to engage those crossovers and place the player's EQ into left/right mode rather than 4-channel mode. Center everything and see how it does.

This is an incorrect statement. The Rio Car is, in fact, designed to be a stand alone unit and does (in my opinion) work the best that way. This is the way I run it, and I get fantastic sound quality out of it. Many other users here on the BBS will attest to that fact.

Do you have a digital camera? Or better yet the model numbers of the amps so we can check out their specs for you?

Re: amp install - 18/03/2002 19:39

Sounds like you've just got the crossover set backwards for the front speakers. Does it have a switch that gives you a choice between LPF and HPF? If so, make sure the front speakers are set to HPF.

Re: amp install - 19/03/2002 00:10

Is what's described in here and in this PDF document what you have?
(Looks like the RF Punch 800.2 has the same filter switch/crossover frequency setting dial too)

Look at page 12 (you'll probably need to zoom in somewhat) and there's a switch
HP/FULL/LP (also see attachment). Make sure it's in the HP setting (HighPass, will only let higher ferquencys through) Then use the crossover frequency dial to set how low the HP filter will go.

Re: amp install - 19/03/2002 11:52

You will get that from most car audio places. I feel the reason they tell you that it would work better as an AUX vise a standalone is because the Rio doesn't have a built in AMP but if you look at the specs of most of the head unit amps the THD is usually really high and besides most car stereo places don't even know what the hell a Rio Car is so they just tell you that out of "lack of knowledge"

The 4-channel bass/high thing was a known bug in one of the software versions. What version are you running?

Re: amp install - 21/03/2002 23:51

Picture problem is probably that it is larger than 100.000 bytes - the board only allows posting pics of size < 100.000 bytes.

Re: amp install - 22/03/2002 11:03

Is this an arbitrary limit coded into the bbs or something paul set? I'm wondering if maybe 250,000 bytes would be more reasonable, as the only times people attach stuff is usually a picture.

Re: amp install - 22/03/2002 11:38

The limit is hard-coded into the BBS I believe.

I think the problem isn't the size of the limit, part of it is that the text telling the user about it isn't easily readable. It should say "100k" instead of "100000 bytes".

Also, one of its major problems is that should give them an error message and allow them to re-upload if they exceed the limit. The fact that people can post and think it's OK because they're not prompted for a re-try is really the root of the problem.

Re: amp install - 22/03/2002 13:30

Is it 102400 bytes or 100000 bytes?

Re: amp install - 22/03/2002 14:06

Good point.

Still, it should stop them if they go too big instead of letting them think it worked.

Re: amp install - 22/03/2002 17:00

does that mean i should set the picture quailty lower on my camera.

Re: amp install - 22/03/2002 17:20

No, it means you shoud resize it to a smaller image, using a piece of photo-editing sofware, before sending it to the BBS. Make sure the file size is under 100k before doing so.

Re: amp install - 28/04/2002 17:50

When you say you are getting bass through your highs, do you mean throught the tweeters, or through your entire front stage? If it's through your tweeters, you definately need a capacitor (crossover) to roll off the lower frequencies, otherwise they'll distort very badly and you'll cook them!

Just a little thing to check :-))

Re: amp install - 30/04/2002 13:50

I also run my empeg (rio-car) as the only head unit in my car, I use an xtant amplifier with built-in crossovers.. it's highly doubtfull that you have the wrong amplifiers, since the empeg is designed to work with almost all car amplifiers.

the problem is the crossover settings for your front speakers, as other people have said.. the EQ is not designed
to be used as a crossover, and is not designed to work in the way you are using it.

you simply need to adjust the crossover settings on your front amplifier, and rear amplifier to get the desiered output. a local best-buy car tech should know enough to be able to adjust this.
