Already being discussed in General. Rio is being sold to another company, supposedly.

Seriously, fella, chill out... There was an empeg product before SonicBlue came around, and, more than likely, there will continue to be an empeg team (and products coming from them) after SonicBlue sells them off. If you read any of the news, you'd find that they're looking to sell off their assets to other companies... Wait for an official announcement from Rob or someone else from Cambridge before going crazy here.

I don't think that that necessarily precludes his wish of opening the player code. Of course, it means that it won't happen.

I was vastly suprised by the annoucement, because SB was slated to get big chunks of my paycheck. A new PVR purchase was on the after-taxes list, (never mind that I have the old model and an Empeg). Sonic Blue was the company taking tech where I wanted it to go.

Anyway...

Well, it'a a very uncertain situation. If the new company has no intrest in supporting a 'dead' product, then we'll be stuck. Still Denon is a good company, I have a receiver of theirs.

Maybe they'll revive it, (which would be really cool) but I doubt it. They aren't in car audio as far as I know. (And niether is Marantz)

If the empeg people sneaked out the source to the latest build, (with ogg) we could work from there...

This will not be happening so don't hold your breath. It's not like the empeg team wants to release the source and SonicBlue was stopping them. The empeg code has tremendous value and is in more current products than just the empeg car player.

Right. And, more importantly, the Rio product line, which is not dead and will continue to be made and sold under a different parent company, uses this source code. Therefore it must continue to remain proprietary.
