Visualization Disable?? - 24/07/2000 18:56

I think it would be nice if you could disable certain visuals from the menu. Maybe this could be done in Empload? Reason is out of all the visuals, I only care for maybe 6 of them, so it would be nice if you could "turn them off" so that they don't show up in the menu or when you cycle thru them, the don't show up. Anyone agree??? Shouldn't be too hard to program ....

Sounds good to me - although if it WAS done in emplode, it would be nice to have an option from empeg itself to display hidden visuals.. (could be under the menus such as the 3d visuals/etc are now... just wouldn't cycle through it..)

Re: Visualization Disable?? - 25/07/2000 00:36

The wishlist includes separating out the visuals into separate modules, and having a visuals manager in emplode (drag & drop new visuals you've downloaded, etc). I suspect all this will happen when emplode gets this :)

(actually, emplode will be used to manage all the plugins - audio, visual, serial add-ins, etc)

The only thing which would make it even better now was if I had already one in the car .

I've ordered a new guitar last week and it should have come tomorrow. Now the salesman told me that it'll come next week. Another item I've to wait for . It was for making waiting time shorter...

Out of curiousity, this kind of thing is going to make it into emptool (and whatever source libraries emerge from it) as well right? I haven't heard much about emptool recently and there has been quite a bit of commentary on new emplode features.

A Yamaha RGX 721DG with Floyd Rose Trem. (the blue one) Nice thing! Looking forward to it. Will probably get it next Wednesday

I would have liked a Stratocaster, too. But then I'd risk to be not able to afford the Mk2 next week

Why do you ask? Playing guitar, too?

Re: Visualization Disable?? - 26/07/2000 02:09

No, there aren't any plans to extend emptool into an all-singing, all-dancing GUI app with management features; the way the new stuff works won't be hidden (so someone could add the features if they wanted to), but the effort is more in the player software itself (for dynamic linking, etc) and the windows gui side as opposed to the protocol side - and the source for emplode is not being released.

Sweet. Gotta have that whammy bar (I couldn't live without mine).

Why do you ask? Playing guitar, too?

Yeah, I've got a pretty sweet stack built mostly around a Digitech GSP-2100 preamp/effects unit. The preamp has the dual-CPU option so I can have it seamlessly switch between two effects with no dropouts. It's all midi-controlled by a Ground Control pedalboard (or my computer if I'm sequencing). The guitar is an old Aria Pro II that I've had for almost 20 years, but I've modified it to perfection (including adding my own trem unit).

I also have a Roland PK-5 pedal synth controller so I can play the synth bass notes on all the Rush songs while I play the guitar.

I also play acoustic guitar and do filk song parodies, some of which are up at my web site.

Re: Visualization Disable?? - 26/07/2000 22:27

Not looking for a GUI, just the basic functionality.

Well, seeing as how this is the wish list forum, some documentation, samples, etc on how to do the managment stuff (without emplode) would be nice as new features like this make their way into emplode. I am not planning on having regular access to anything running emplode (or windows for that matter) so I will be looking for alternative ways to do all this stuff.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Visualization Disable?? - 26/07/2000 22:58

Currently I just have a "NoName" electric guitar. I was not playing too much on it - till I began to play with a friend of mine. This was great fun. So I decided to really learn guitar with a teacher's help and that's what I'm currently about.

I've got a Korg AX1G multieffect pedal and no special amp - I just come through the phono input of my homehifi to the boxes. Well - enough power at all.

I'm practising nearly every day now - and hoping to get better, soon - some friends say I'm already better, but I'm not satisfied with my skills at all.

But it's fun to play the guitar - and I'll see how things are going on with my friend - maybe someday we'll found a band ...

For some bizarre reason (which will probably only make sense to people in the UK who are of a certain age, but who knows?) the first thought to enter my head when I read this was the phrase "What has a hazelnut in every bite?"

If anyone knows what on earth I am talking about, and aren't too embarrassed to admit it, please back me up... I think I'm going mad!!

And if anyone knows the rest of the words... I'll be impressed

A "Topic Bar" is a candy bar sold in the U.K., consisting of fondant
and hazelnuts covered with chocolate. (This is what Lister means in
"Marooned" when he says "Don't mention Topics, they're food.") One ad
campaign for the Topic Bar used the slogan "A hazelnut in every bite."
Thus, in "Stasis Leak", Rimmer complains, "Everything always goes
wrong for me. I'm probably the only person in the world to buy a
Topic Bar without a single hazelnut in it."

It's amazing what you can find on the internet if you go looking for it!

But.... what are the rest of the words?

So, Doug, are you a Red Dwarf fan, or are those just quotes you're pulling from the 'net with no clue as to where they're from?

Re: Topic Talk - 27/07/2000 12:30

Okay, then, Doug, to educate you:

Those were quotes from a British sci-fi comedy television series called "Red Dwarf". Pretty low budget, at least it was when I watched it. Lister and Rimmer were main characters. Lister being (as I recall) an English rastufarian (if there can be such a thing) with a laid-back attitude, and Rimmer being a sentient hologram with a perpetual burr up his butt. Sort of an "Odd Couple" in space. Despite the low budget and rough edges, I really liked the first season's episodes because they had an edgy quality to the humor that rubbed me the right way. Then I quit watching when the show was re-tooled with different characters for the next season- the humor turned forced and un-funny all of a sudden.

One of its likable points was that characters insulted each other by calling each other "smeg-heads". Good choice on the part of the writers- it's disgusting if you get the reference, but it gets past the censors quite nicely. I busted a gut when I first heard them say it.

Okay, this thread has gone off-topic now by at least four steps removed. Not a record yet. Anyone want to go for five, and really get the topic police on our case? (We probably will if someone has to ask what "smeg-head" refers to.)

Re: The words (Was Something Unrelated!) - 27/07/2000 16:19

Ok, I just want to make it clear that I am ashamed to even know this... Why didn't I 'just stop watching the television set and go out and do something less boring instead?' (let's not go there either!!)

I believe, for sake of completeness, and to bring this all to an undignified close, that the words to the advert were... ahem...

"What has a hazelnut in every bite?
Topic!
Thick milk chocolate for your delight?
Topic!
Nougat and caramel golden light?
And don't forget the hazelnut in every bite"

I am so, so sorry...

Blimey, if just the words are causing a problem, then it's a damn good job that you can't hear the silly tune and the squeaky voice that went with them.

And no, it's nothing to be ashamed of - that advert must be lodged deeply in the brains of an entire generation (including me - you are word perfect)

Well, I met Craig Thomas last week at the filming of an MTV special of "Robot Wars" (US only). It's going to be shown soon; me and my two sons are in the front row of the audience under the large number "1". We were the loudest audience group, apparently. By 'eck tho', those robots are loud.

That far enough off topic, or merely weakly related?
