Tuner functions - 02/10/2001 19:03

Having had my tuner for an amazing 4 days, there are a couple of things I would like to add. I only have the Kenwood remote, please let me know if things are different for the rio remote.

1. Preset Bank Selection
at the moment it is difficult to access different banks, menu->tuner->bank->[select bank]
is it possible to have the tuner button change banks on single press and change frequencies on a held press.

Is it possible to have independant banks for AM & FM? I can think of resons for and against so it might need to be selectable.

Hi.

1. Preset Bank Selection
at the moment it is difficult to access different banks, menu->tuner->bank->[select bank]
is it possible to have the tuner button change banks on single press and change frequencies on a held press.

I haven't tried it yet (because my tuner isn't installed yet), but from the printing on the rio remote, this is exactly how it is working.

Since we're on a tuner wishlist thread, a user settable volume rolloff for low signal strength stations would be my vote. Right now if you have a very weak station, the volume is very low. I understand this is to make the static harder to hear, however I find that a station whose volume fluctuates between very low & off is more annoying than one that just breaks up into static. Also when I hit the right button & go to my next preset, if it's a strong one I get blasted out of my seat (as I've got the volume on -10 from the weak station); ditto if I switch to the player. Even if the setting were on/off for the volume rolloff, that would be tres cool. If it's a software setting for the dsp (which I think I saw mentioned in one of the bug threads) this would seem do-able.

I second the volume roll-off thing. This is extremely annoying when driving at low speeds.

I'd also like to see an 'input gain' setting for each preset. AM stations are much louder than FM (at least in my part of the world) and need a small amount of attenuation.

Maybe we need something like VolAdj for the Tuner? What does everyone think?

Umm I think it would be extremely difficult for the kernel to know anything about what station is selected on the tuner...

I think the Empeg guys would have to hook this one up for us. Kernel mods only go so far! :)

Yeah, I believe the signal from the tuner doesn't go anywhere near the necessary parts of the empeg circuitry to mak this an easy 3rd-party add-on. Just thought I'd sow the seed.

Pressing & holding Tuner on my empeg remote toggles AM/FM. I agree about switching banks; it should be simpler.
