Spectroscopes on Flame With Rock 'n' Roll

I was watching the Hula Hoops visual at the weekend, and it occurred to me how much like a fire the trails are. Perhaps a similar trails effect (moving upwards) could be added to one of the spectrometer visuals to make a log-fire effect (like the flames screensaver from xscreensaver)?
